Club Competitions
Club competitions are open to members only and as a fully
paid up member of the Club, a rule book is provided. You will
be invited to enter the various competitions we offer.
Six monthly slide (including monochrome) and print competitions
(both open and portrait) are held each season, where a Group
system is used in 3 categories: Group 1 - Advanced, Group
2 - Intermediate, Group 3 - Novice. The points awarded for
each competition are added up to produce a winner at the end
of the season. Trophies are awarded to the winners of each
competition at the Annual Dinner & Awards Night.
We are also very competitive as individuals and as a club
enter local and county exhibitions and competition 'battles'.
In addition to the monthly competitions others competitions
include:

Len Charles Cup
|
Slides
|
A photographic assignment to be carried out during
our clubs recess. Up to 15 slides may be entered, per
member, all on the same subject, but not necessarily
of a holiday (as the title suggests). At the time of
projection members give a 'live' commentary on their
chosen theme. The maximum time allowed is 12 minutes
for each sequence.

St.Aubyn Cup
|
Landscape prints
|
Each member may enter up to 3 prints, black and white
or colour, but they MUST be landscape pictures only.
We define landscape as being a country scene of fields,
mountains with a lake etc. but not seascape or townscapes.
This competition is judged after a monthly print competition
by a Kent County accredited judge - no marks are given,
just an overall winner who will receive the trophy.

|
Peter Heritage Cup
|
Colour slides
|
A different set subject is chosen by the committee
each season. Each member may enter up to 6 slides. Again
no marks are given, just an overall winner for the trophy,
but an outside judge will comment on the slides.

Reg Walker Cup
|
Colour slides
|
Members are asked to submit up to 6 slides from their
previous seasons work, which are made into an audio
visual sequence (set to music). Again an overall winner
will be decided by an accredited judge and will receive
the trophy as the best slide of the season.

Presidents Cup
|
Prints
|
This is awarded to the author of best print of the
season - usually judged at the annual exhibition by
an accredited judge.

Exhibitions
For many years we have been proud to be asked to exhibit our
work over a period of several weeks in Folkestone Library,
Grace Hill. The Metropole Arts Centre in 1999 was very successful
also. However due to problems with the above venues, we are
at present seeking another venue to hold the next exhibition.

Annual Dinner & Awards Night
At the end of each season we hold our annual dinner at a local
venue. We arrange for a guest speaker to come along and give
us a short talk and then present the trophies. Over the years
we have had some very interesting speakers - some from the
photographic field but not always. Among them were Ron Lobeck
(Meridian TV), Christopher Jones (BBC Parliamentary Correspondent)
and this year Tim Brinton (retired TV newsreader and politician).
We are always looking for ideas for a guest speaker and would
be grateful if any ideas could be forwarded
on to us.
