History
Folkestone Camera Club began its long history in the year
of 1906, and although the club had short breaks during the
two world wars, it has had meetings continually since 1945.
The period of our present membership covers less than one
year to some members who joined more than thirty years ago.
The club is affiliated to the Photographic
Alliance of Great Britain [PAGB] through the Kent
County Photographic Association [KCPA], and we follow
their guidelines and many lecturers and judges are obtained
through them. They hold two main competitions once a year
for all Kent clubs to participate in: the Handley Shield (Slides)
and the Ross Cup (Prints) which are held in venues throughout
Kent. A Battle against Surrey and a biennial Audio Visual
Competition is also held.
Weekly meetings from September to May offer members informative
lectures, practical demonstrations and competitions. Full
details can be found in the programme.
Our members participate in all photographic fields, using
varied materials and helpful advice is always to hand. An
exhibition of our work is usually held once a year at a local
venue.
The last two years we have been asked to send some slides
(with an exchange of their work) in the form of an Audio Visual
to Australia (Brisbane Camera Club) which we are thrilled
to be repeating this year. These shows have since been circulated
to several clubs in Australia and New Zealand.
We enjoy good social activities within the Club. Day outings,
theatre trips, a Christmas Social and Annual Dinner and Awards
Night with a guest speaker where the years competition winners
receive their trophies.
