Meetings
Weekly meetings are held in the St Georges Church, Audley Road, Folkestone. The hall is compact and modern and ideal for meetings and discussions as well as providing us with the opportunity to display prints and project images on to a large screen. Other groups meet , usually monthly, covering different aspects of photography, these are detailed below and the dates are listed in the programme under "Events"
The club season starts in mid-September and continues until May the following year, ending with an Awards Night. A yearly programme is now published, on this site,(please ask for a paper copy if you would like one) detailing the planned events that are held each Monday evening starting at 7.30pm. Outings are arranged to provide members with the opportunity to practice their photographic skills whilst enjoying a day out in the nearby countryside.
Throughout the season well known speakers are invited to give demonstrations and talks on photography related subjects, a wide range of lectures are provided to assist both the beginner and the advanced workers.
We arrange inter-member competitions for members to display their prints and digital images. These are kept within separate categories of achievements. These competitions cover prints, portraits, and digitally projected images. With the increase in digital photography we have increased our competitions in this category and they now include open, mono and creative. The entries are judged by suitably qualified judges and the marks count towards winning an end of season trophy. The detailed Rules, and all the different competitions held throughout the season with a list of the trophies that are awarded at the end of each season at our Annual Awards Night, are shown on this site under "About the Club" "Rules and Constitution" Feel free to print the rules if you require a hard copy.
Battles (friendly rivalry!) with other local clubs are often held as it is good to see other peoples work, and again discuss various aspects of photography, as well as making new friends.
Practical Evenings
We have a new venue, for the Practical Evenings, for the coming season, The Chichester Memorial Hall in Sandgate, and evenings are arranged where members can practice with the club's studio lighting equipment either with models or still life/table top, see the programme for the dates.
It is also an ideal opportunity for new members to get to know the other members and obtain practical "hands on experience" where they can also bring along their prints for discussion and advice in this informal and friendly atmosphere. There is an additional charge of £1 for this evening to pay for the hall and a charge for tea and coffee.
There is an active Audio Visual Group which meets on the second Thursday of the month (see programme for dates) to be held at 2 Cedar Court, Brambley Crescent, Folkestone (car park and entrance to flats are in Enbrook Valley) We teach you how to get to grips with PTE, Cool Edit etc, we give helpful advice and "critique" on your sequences. We have projects which we work on and these are judged by the other members. There is an opportunity to enter competitions for AVs - The Nigel Winter Cup, a club event held annually and the KCPA AV competition, a County event, held annually. Come and find out what AV is all about!
A newly formed group "The Panel Group" meet on the first Thursday of the month at the Old Fire Station in Sandgate, again the dates are in the programme. The idea is for members to bring images, that form a cohesive panel, others offer advise and critique. There is encouragement and information to those who wish to take their photography that bit further, and go for Distinctions.
